Entering Lake Orlando on the Waupaca Chain O' Lakes
The Spring of 2012 has been kind to early season paddlers in Wisconsin. The warmer weather and sunny conditions have pushed me to go paddling more often than usual this early in the season. One of my favorite nearby places to paddle is the Waupaca Chain O’ Lakes.
The lakes are crystal clear and pretty protected on windy days. For paddlers I recommend starting on the Upper Chain at the Knight Rd. landing. The Upper Chain is for small boats and weekends in the summer it’s common to see many paddlers out enjoying these clear waters.
Early in the season you may be the only one out paddling.
The larger part of the chain can be accessed by the very shallow Beasley Creek. Weekends during the summer expect very busy boat and water ski traffic on the larger part of the chain. I recommend paddling the big chain on weekdays or early or very late in the Wisconsin paddling season.

Do you like paddling the Waupaca Chain of Lakes? Enjoy watching a few rolls. Sean Grafenstein was recently out enjoying another beautiful August day in Wisconsin on the Waupaca Chain of Lakes with his friend Bob.
This video from Sean shows off some of the beauty of the Upper Chain of Lakes. You also get to see what it looks like hanging upside down under the water.
Enjoy this little trip around the Waupaca Chain of Lakes.

Waupaca Chain O' Lakes
Waupaca’s Chain O’ Lakes is a beautiful and popular place for paddling.
The Upper Chain is all no wake and only can be accessed by small boats. The Upper Chain is a great place to start your paddling on the Waupaca Chain. There is a small boat landing off of Knight Rd. in the channel between Knight Lake and Manomin Lake. Nice Summer days bring a lot of paddlers to these waters. If you go on a weekend it is likely to see other paddlers on the Upper Chain.
The Upper Chain O’ Lakes includes Marl Lake, Pope Lake, Manomin Lake, Knight Lake and Lake Orlando.
Beasley Creek is a shallow connecting channel to the Lower Chain O’ Lakes. The lower Chain is busy with power boat traffic in the Summer and has many large homes and cottages around all of these lakes shores. If you go paddling during the week these lakes are not usually too busy. Weekends in the Summer you will have plenty of boats to sharing these waters.
